Schoolgirl gone really eclectic is what I think of as I look at Thom Browne's Fall 2011 collection. His models strutted down the "runway" in New York's Public Library to the the tune of "How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria?" from The Sound of Music. The models wore habits but there were no other religious connotations represented through the clothing. There was lots of plaid, all mismatched, tweed, argyle, ties, lots of layers, extreme proportions, and of course, exceptional tailoring.
Plaid blazer paired with black plaid cropped pants, a striped tie, collared shirt, black (gorgeous) patent leather handbag, black gloves, black trouser socks, and black oxfords. Oh and don't forget the habit.

Extremely high-necked gray top with voluminous three-quarter length sleeves paired with an exaggerated gray tulip skirt with fabric stripes and accessorized with gray gloves, black tights, and black oxfords
Another high collar was on this eclectically layered cream and gray coat with a single button on top and was paired with a gray clutch, gray gloves, black tights, and black oxfords
Another example of extreme silhouettes was shown on this red and gray plaid wool tulip skirt and a smaller plaid print top with high collar and exaggerated sleeves paired with black gloves, black tights, and black oxfords
A long draped sleeveless argyle jacket in purple and a coral red worn over a plaid dress and with a flared cuff was accessorized with a black belt with gold buckle, black briefcase, black tights, and black oxfords.

Designer, Jeffrey Monteiro presented his second collection for Bill Blass in at intimate setting at popular NYC restaurant, the Monkey Bar. Montiero drew inspiration from Blass's Fall 1970 collection and developed pieces that were classic, sophisticated, and had a modern twist. Montiero explained, "I was really interested in mixing textures. If something is light, then the question becomes, okay, how do you ground this?" This playing with textures became obvious in outfits that looked as if they could float from day into night. The color scheme was black, white, and red, which Montiero said was, "meant to give strength, but also give an ease to the collection." The models were styled with Philip Crangi jewelry, Manolo Blahnik heels, and Albertus Swanepoel fedoras. Do you think this collection could be a revival for Bill Blass?

L.A.M.B. Fall 2011 RTW
Designer, Gwen Stefani's fashion show, was a mixture of trends both old and new. The show happened in 6 categories that included different music, models, and styles each time. Military-inspired looks were worn by the "Solider Girls," Rastafarian and tribal-inspired looks were worn by the "Ragga Muffins," mens-inspired designs were worn by the "London Girls,"heavy blanket plaids were worn by the "Buffalo Girls," "Mod Girls" wore an array of funky prints and the show close with the "Glamour Girls' who were all blonde and wore black jumpsuits, 70's style.

For her Fall 2011 collection, designer Rebecca Minkoff showed off her usual contemporary aesthetic mixed with a bit of a rock n' roll edge.

The Lake & Stars Fall 2011 RTW Review
The Lake & Stars Fall 2011 RTW
This past year The Lake & Stars designers, Nikki Dekker and Maayan Zilberman, received the 2011 Ecco Domani prize and added underwire bras and shapewear to their line. Dekker describes the line, "as a crossover ready-to-wear collection and more of a designer line and less of a 'What do you wear as a bra and underwear?'" This makes sense because in the past few seasons we have seen lingerie become more visible as outerwear. The designers said that they were inspired by the interior of the Met, and Superstudio the 1960s/70s Italian architecture firm and ideas in their manifesto, Life Without Objects. Artist Francesca DiMattio contributed custom textiles to the collection.
